This is the complete set of the ACR SR203 survival radio: the device with a primary emergency battery, a rechargeable battery, and a charging set. Suitable for both emergency use and daily communication on board.

The same emergency radio, but also suitable for daily use on board
This is the complete set of the ACR SR203. In addition to the radio and the primary lithium battery for emergency use, it includes a rechargeable lithium-polymer battery and a charging set. This makes the device usable for regular work on board without tapping into the emergency battery.

That distinction is the core of this set. The primary battery remains behind the red protective seal and is only for when things go wrong. For daily communication, you switch to the rechargeable battery, which you place in the fast charger as soon as it is empty. This gives you a radio you actually use instead of a device that lies unused in a cupboard for years, while your emergency supply remains intact.

Furthermore, it is the familiar SR203: automatic on channel 16 upon activation, a separate call button for that channel, backlit display and backlit buttons, and 21 simplex channels. The primary battery has an operating life of more than 16 hours at minus 20 degrees Celsius.

Why choose the SR203 radio set?

  • Two batteries in one set: a primary for emergency use and a rechargeable one for everyday use
  • Fast charger included: the rechargeable battery is quickly full again
  • Emergency supply remains intact: the primary battery remains untouched behind the protective seal
  • Directly on channel 16: after activation, the radio is on the international emergency channel
  • Backlit display and buttons: easy to read and operate in the dark
  • Complies with IMO requirements: suitable for mandatory and voluntary equipment

Who is this product made for?

This set is intended for anyone who wants a certified survival radio on board and also wants to use the device practically, for example for communication between bridge and deck or between ship and dinghy. Usable on merchant shipping and fishing vessels, but just as well on charter vessels, workboats, and yachts where an extra portable radio comes in handy.

What is in it for you?

  • One device for two purposes: emergency use and daily communication
  • Your emergency battery stays full: daily use runs on the rechargeable battery
  • Always charged: the fast charger keeps the battery topped up
  • Familiar in use: because you use it regularly, you know how it works when it matters

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a radio license?

In most countries, yes. A VHF radio is subject to the radio licensing rules of the country where you are sailing. For the exact requirements, the regulations of the competent authority in your country apply. For the Netherlands, you arrange this via the Rijksinspectie Digitale Infrastructuur.

What does GMDSS mean?

GMDSS stands for Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, the international system for emergency communication at sea. Ships subject to SOLAS must have a fixed number of certified radios on board.

What is channel 16?

Channel 16 is the international emergency and calling channel on VHF. Both ACR radios automatically jump to this channel upon activation, so you don't have to search in an emergency situation.

What exactly is in this set?

The SR203 radio, the primary lithium battery for emergency use, a rechargeable lithium-polymer battery, and a charging set with charger and power adapter. This allows you to use the device both as an emergency provision and for daily use.

May I use the rechargeable battery for my GMDSS equipment?

The primary lithium battery is the battery for emergency use, the rechargeable one is intended for daily communication. Therefore, for your mandatory equipment, stick with the primary battery and check your class society requirements in case of doubt.
