The higher wattage provides more light, but this only works on a 24-volt system. If you install this bulb on a 12-volt system, it will be too dim and you will actually lose range. Therefore, check that your onboard power system is indeed 24 volts before ordering. For 12-volt systems, the 55-watt bulb with part number 6002 is the right choice.
You will mainly encounter 24-volt systems on larger yachts, workboats, and commercial vessels. If you are considering a replacement, also take a look at the RCL-50 LED, which works on 12 to 24 volts and lasts for tens of thousands of operating hours without requiring a bulb change.

Check your existing bulb or the searchlight manual. Both power and voltage must be correct. There are several bulbs for these series that look identical from the outside but are not interchangeable.
What happens if the voltage is wrong?
A bulb intended for a lower voltage will burn too brightly and break quickly. Conversely, it will burn too dimly and you will lose significant range.
Can I use this 24-volt bulb on a 12-volt system?
No. A 24-volt bulb on 12 volts burns too dimly and provides hardly any usable light. For 12 volts, part number 6002 is the right choice.
