The ACR Pathfinder PRO is a radar SART: a transponder that places the recognizable pattern of twelve blips on ship radar, making your life raft visible. IMO SOLAS compliant. Over 96 hours standby, 12 hours active.
Radar transponder that makes your life raft visible on any ship's radar screen
The ACR Pathfinder PRO is a Search and Rescue Transponder, or SART for short. The device responds to X-band marine radar and displays the recognizable SART pattern of twelve blips on the radar screen, as prescribed by the IMO standard for radar transponders, for any vessel scanning you. This makes a life raft or a vessel in distress, which would otherwise provide almost no radar echo, suddenly clearly visible.
The Pathfinder PRO complies with IMO SOLAS regulations. A SART is mandatory for commercial vessels required to comply with GMDSS and for any vessel carrying more than one life raft. The device is supplied with a wall bracket and features a lithium battery that can be replaced by the user.
Why choose the Pathfinder PRO SART?
- Recognizable SART pattern on radar: twelve blips on the screens of approaching ships, the pattern required by the IMO standard for radar SARTs
- IMO SOLAS compliant: suitable for vessels required to meet GMDSS requirements
- 96 hours standby: the lithium battery keeps the device ready for almost four days
- 12 hours active: more than enough transmission time during a rescue operation
- Replaceable battery: a non-hazardous lithium battery that can be changed by the user
- Wall bracket included: compactly stored and still immediately at hand
Who is this product for?
The Pathfinder PRO is intended for vessels required to comply with GMDSS, such as merchant shipping, fishing vessels, tugs, offshore, and charter vessels. Additionally, any vessel with more than one life raft falls under the mandatory carriage requirement, which can also include larger motor yachts and sailing yachts. For use in a life raft, the optional telescopic pole is recommended, as the higher the SART is positioned, the greater the range.
What are the benefits for you?
- Your raft becomes visible: without a SART, a rubber boat produces almost no radar echo
- Compliance with regulations: fulfills the mandatory SART carriage requirement under GMDSS
- Hands-free operation: can be hung inside the raft or mounted on the optional pole
- Long standby time: over 96 hours of standby on one battery
- Self-maintainable: the battery is replaceable without needing to send the device in

Frequently asked questions
What is a SART and when do I need one?
A SART is a transponder that responds to ship radar, making your position visible on the radar screen of approaching ships. A SART is mandatory for all commercial vessels required to comply with GMDSS, and for any vessel that has more than one life raft on board.
What is the difference between a radar SART and an AIS SART?
A radar SART places the recognizable pattern of twelve blips on the radar screen of ships that are scanning you. An AIS SART instead transmits AIS position messages that become visible on any AIS screen within range, including shore stations. ACR continues to supply both types, as they both have their own strengths.
How long will the device last?
In standby, the battery lasts for more than 96 hours. Once activated, the device transmits for more than 12 hours.
Can I replace the battery myself?
According to the official product information, the Pathfinder PRO has a non-hazardous lithium battery that can be replaced by the user. The replacement battery item number is 2920.
