This is the ACR GPS interface cable for a Cat II EPIRB setup. The cable connects the beacon to the NMEA output of your navigation equipment, allowing the EPIRB to receive position data from the vessel.
Special order item. We aim to ship this within 3 to 4 weeks after order confirmation.
Provide your EPIRB with onboard position data
This GPS interface cable from ACR is designed for a Cat II EPIRB setup. It provides a hard-wired connection between the beacon and the NMEA output of your navigation equipment.
The benefit is speed. A beacon with GPS position data reduces the search radius to approximately one hundred meters and shortens the reporting time from potentially nearly an hour to just a few minutes, because geostationary satellites can transmit your position immediately instead of having to wait for a passing satellite. For older beacons without their own built-in GPS receiver, this cable is the way to achieve that advantage.
Why choose the GPS interface cable Cat II?
- Shorter reporting time: with position data, the alarm is sent within minutes instead of potentially an hour
- Smaller search radius: a reduction to approximately one hundred meters
- For a Cat II setup: the version that belongs to this bracket type
- Hard-wired: permanent connection to the NMEA output
Who is this product for?
Intended for vessels with a Cat II EPIRB setup, meaning a beacon in an open bracket that you remove from the holder yourself. In this configuration, the cable runs to a bracket that is usually located inside or in a sheltered area, which makes installation simpler than with a Cat I housing. Especially relevant for older beacons without their own GNSS receiver.
What are the benefits for you?
- Be found faster: position data shortens the reporting time from potentially an hour to minutes
- Smaller search area: the search radius is reduced to approximately one hundred meters
- Easier to install than Cat I: the bracket is usually sheltered and more accessible
- Utilize your existing navigation: you use the GPS already on board

Frequently asked questions
What is the benefit of a GPS connection?
A beacon with GPS position data reduces the search radius to approximately one hundred meters and shortens the reporting time from potentially nearly an hour to just a few minutes.
Do I need this cable for a GlobalFix V5 or V6?
No. These beacons have their own internal GNSS receiver and determine their position themselves. This cable is intended for older setups without their own receiver.
Why is there a separate cable for Cat I and Cat II?
The connection differs per bracket type. Item number 9388 is intended for a Cat II bracket, and item number 9388.1 for a Cat I housing. Check which setup you have on board before ordering.
