This is the ACR GPS interface cable for a Cat I EPIRB setup. The cable connects the beacon to the NMEA output of your navigation equipment, allowing the EPIRB to receive position data from the vessel.
Special order item. We aim to ship this within 3 to 4 weeks after order confirmation.
Feed your EPIRB with onboard position data
This GPS interface cable from ACR is intended for a Cat I EPIRB setup. It provides a hard-wired connection between the beacon and the NMEA output of your navigation equipment.
The benefit of this is speed. A beacon with GPS position reduces the search radius to approximately one hundred meters and shortens the reporting time from potentially nearly an hour to just a few minutes, as stationary satellites can relay your position immediately instead of having to wait for a passing satellite. For older beacons without their own GPS receiver, this cable is the way to achieve that improvement.
Why choose the GPS interface cable Cat I?
- Shorter reporting time: with position data, the alarm is raised within minutes instead of potentially an hour
- Smaller search radius: a reduction to approximately one hundred meters
- For a Cat I setup: the version that matches this bracket type
- Hard-wired: permanent connection to the NMEA output
Who is this product for?
Intended for vessels with a Cat I EPIRB setup, i.e., a beacon in a closed hydrostatic housing that automatically releases the device in the event of sinking. When laying the cable, ensure that the housing remains free of obstructions so the beacon can truly float free. Particularly relevant for older beacons without their own GNSS receiver.
What are the benefits for you?
- Being found faster: position data shortens the reporting time from potentially an hour to minutes
- Smaller search area: the search radius is reduced to approximately one hundred meters
- Fits a float-free setup: the version that connects to a Cat I housing
- Utilize your existing navigation: you use the GPS already on board

Frequently asked questions
What does a GPS connection provide?
A beacon with GPS position reduces the search radius to approximately one hundred meters and shortens the reporting time from potentially nearly an hour to a few minutes.
Do I need this cable for a GlobalFix V5 or V6?
No. These beacons have their own internal GNSS receiver and determine their position themselves. This cable is intended for older setups without an internal receiver.
Does the cable interfere with the automatic release?
That must not happen. A Cat I housing must be able to release the beacon freely, so route the cable in such a way that nothing is in the way and follow the instructions provided with the housing. If in doubt, have the connection performed by a professional installer.
