For which liquids is the TLM100 suitable?
Diesel, potable water, gray water, black water, and oil. Explicitly not for gasoline. This is stated in the Maretron manual and is non-negotiable. If you have a gasoline tank, look for a different solution; ask us, and we will help you find one.
How deep can my tank be?
A maximum of 40 inches, approximately 1.02 meters, measured from the sensor to the bottom. If your tank is deeper, this is not the right model, and you should consider pressure measurement with a submersible sensor. Measure this beforehand, as it is the most common estimation error with tank monitors.
Is the sensor in the liquid?
No, and that is exactly why you want it. The TLM100 sits on top of the tank and uses ultrasound to measure the distance to the liquid surface. Nothing hangs in the tank that can get stuck, clogged, or corroded, unlike a float switch. Note: the underside of the sensor should only come into contact with clean liquid.
Does it work on every tank?
Here is the catch, and it is one people only discover after installation. The TLM100 looks straight down and expects a flat bottom. Maretron warns: if the tank bottom below the sensor is sloped, ribbed, or rough, the TLM100 cannot provide a reliable reading. For such tanks, you can use a focus tube. If you are unsure what your tank looks like on the inside, send us a photo or drawing, and we will take a look.
How is it mounted?
With the standard SAE J1810 five-hole pattern, the same pattern used by most tank senders, or with a screw adapter. If there was already a sender on your tank, the TLM100 will often fit directly. The gasket only fits one way and must be aligned correctly, otherwise, the measurement will not be accurate.
What else do I need?
An NMEA 2000 network and a display or dashboard to view the values. The TLM100 sends its reading to the network; what you do with it is up to you. See NMEA 2000 for the network.
